Crowdsourced cargo delivery — Mercedes-Benz StarHack'21 winner

Overview

CarGoo matches packages with people who are already travelling the same route, so they can earn money by carrying cargo and senders pay less. It won 1st place at Mercedes-Benz Otomotiv StarHack'21 and 3rd prize in the Industry and Automotive category of the 12th Genç Beyinler Yeni Fikirler competition, and it led to a published paper on energy-saving cargo transportation.

The problem

Cargo delivery is expensive and wastes energy, while millions of trips with spare capacity happen every day.

Key features

• Route matching between senders' packages and travellers' existing trips
• Income for travellers and lower delivery costs for senders — about 25% lower in our model
• Energy-saving modelling, later published in the Fırat University Journal of Engineering Sciences
