Pendigit

Super app combining a social feed, TV-style channels, VOD, live streaming and ads

Overview

Pendigit brings social media and TV-style watching into one product for creators and viewers: a social feed, broadcast channels with an electronic programme guide (EPG), video on demand, creator live streams, messaging and in-app ads. It runs on the web, Android, iOS and Smart TVs, with separate manager and admin panels. I worked on .NET backend features and built parts of the Next.js admin and manager panels in a team.

The problem

Creators need one place to run channels, schedules, content and monetisation, and viewers want social and TV-style watching in a single app.

Key features

• Social feed with posts, mentions, hashtags, bookmarks and surveys
• Broadcast channels with an EPG timeline editor in the manager panel
• VOD uploads with resumable upload, and creator live streaming that becomes VOD when the stream ends
• Messaging with in-browser audio and video calls (WebRTC)
• TV sign-in with a QR or short code
• Ad campaigns, creatives and sponsored posts
• Admin panel for back-office and user management
• Payments with iyzico and PayTR, plus App Store and Google Play purchase verification

Architecture

• Two ASP.NET Core 8 hosts: one for the admin panel, one for the site, manager panel and TV apps
• Domain-split EF Core contexts on PostgreSQL (social, communication, broadcast, catalog, paywall, games, logging) and Redis
• Separate Next.js apps for the public site, the manager panel and the admin panel
• Media delivered through a CDN with streaming and live services; SignalR for real-time features
• Docker images built and deployed through CI/CD pipelines

Technical challenges

• Keeping one backend consistent across web, mobile, Smart TV and two management panels
• Scheduling channel content and ads on an EPG timeline
• Supporting several payment providers and store purchase verification in one paywall
